New York Knicks’ Josh Hart Shares Honest Thoughts After Brutal Game 4 Loss to Indiana
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks know they are in a world of trouble after failing to make the most of their opportunities in Games 3 and 4. They cannot use the excuse of playing in a hostile environment because they were able to handle the Philadelphia 76ers just fine despite the signature Philly sports crowd atmosphere.

The Knicks were embarrassed in Game 4 to the point that it was hard to watch for the fans. Their performance was so horrendous that Stephen A. Smith went on another angry tirade about how the team didn’t play to the high standards he and the rest of the Knicks fans have placed on them.

No one is as aware of these expectations as Josh Hart. He’s been one of the most pleasantly surprising players for the Knicks in the offseason, with his hustle and drive bringing up the Knicks through the first couple of postseason games.

However, he was brought down to Earth on Game 4 as he barely looked like his usual self. He directly addressed these issues and promised a much-improved performance in Game 5.

Josh Hart takes full responsibility for his terrible play during the New York Knicks’ Game 4 debacle

Kristian Winfield of New York Daily News wrote about Hart’s disappointing night and how he took full responsibility for his part in failing to bring the Knicks back up:

“I put that on my shoulders,” Hart said at his locker after the game. “I’m supposed to be the energy guy of the team, and I didn’t do anything. I gave nothing. I put that on my shoulders. Now we’ve got to focus on rest and recovery and like I said, get ready for Tuesday.”

The last sentence would bring to mind Tom Thibodeau’s rotation tactics and whether such a spartan approach contributed to the team’s collapse.

Hart was asked about this, and he answered in a way that absolved Thibs of any responsibility:

“Do I feel it (the wear and tear)? Yeah. But I mean, I think everyone does,” he said. “So at the end of the day it’s the playoffs. You’ve got to will yourself, will your body, and that’s something that I failed to do today. I’ve got to be better. There’s no excuses.”

Hart will be eager to redeem his two-point, three-rebound, and two-assist night with a major bounce-back on Game 4. Whether he’ll do that is up to him and the rest of the team to up their energy against Indiana.
